Terms and privacy

What this is

Contical is a private calendar, notes and childcare-pay tracker built and run by one family for their own household. It is not a company, not a product for sale, and not open for public sign-up. There is no fee, no subscription and no account to create.

Who may use it

Only people a parent of the household has added from inside the app. Sign-in checks your email address against that list and turns away anyone who is not on it. Access is granted at a parent's discretion and can be withdrawn at any time, without notice, by deactivating the account.

Use the app only for coordinating the household it was built for. Do not attempt to reach data belonging to anyone else, and do not share your sign-in with someone who has not been invited.

It does not move money

The pay screen adds up hours from the calendar and applies rates a parent has entered. Marking a week paid records that a payment happened elsewhere — in cash, by bank transfer, however the household settles up. Contical is not a payroll provider, not a payment processor, and does not hold, send or receive funds. The figures it shows are a shared record, not an authority on what is owed, and they are not tax or employment advice.

No warranty

The app is provided as-is, with no guarantee that it will be available, correct, or free of faults. It is a personal project maintained in spare time. Do not rely on it as the only record of anything that matters — an event, a medical note, or what a caregiver is owed. To the extent the law allows, the people who run it accept no liability for any loss arising from its use or from its being unavailable.

Changes

These terms may change as the app does. The date at the top of this page is when they last changed. Continuing to use the app after a change means the new terms apply.

What Google tells us when you sign in

Sign-in requests the scopes "openid email profile" and nothing more. From the identity token Google returns, Contical reads exactly two things: your email address and your name. It does not read, receive, store or request your Google profile photo, your contacts, your Google Calendar, your Drive, your Gmail, or anything else in your Google account.

Your password is typed on Google's own site and never on this one. There is no password field anywhere in this application and no column for one in its database.

What the household puts in

Calendar events and who is covering them; shared notes and checklists; the names, colours and roles of the people in the household, including children added by their parents; caregiver pay rates and the record of which weeks have been paid; and a profile photo, if you upload one.

Children in the household do not sign in and have no login. Their names and schedules appear only because a parent entered them, and are visible only to that household.

What is kept automatically

A sign-in cookie, which is a signed token identifying you and nothing else. It lasts thirty days and is not used for tracking.

The date you last signed in, and a log of digest emails sent to you, so the same one is not sent twice.

Anonymous page-view counts through Vercel Web Analytics. These use no cookies and record the shape of an address — the pattern of the route — rather than the address itself, so the identifiers of your notes and events are never sent off the server.

How it is used

To show the household its own calendar, notes and pay records, and to send the daily or weekly schedule digest to anyone who has switched it on. Digests are off by default and are turned on and off by each person on their own profile.

Your data is not sold, rented, or shared with advertisers. It is not used to train anything. There is no advertising on this site and no third-party tracking.

Who else can see it

Other members of your household, as the app is designed to be shared.

The services that run it, and only as far as running it requires: Vercel (hosting), a managed PostgreSQL database, Google (sign-in only) and Resend (sending the digest emails). Each of these processes data on the household's behalf under its own terms. Nobody else.

We would disclose data if the law required it. That has not happened.

How long it is kept, and how to get rid of it

Calendar events, notes and pay records stay until someone in the household deletes them. Account details stay while the account exists.

To have your account and your personal data removed, ask a parent in your household. Deactivating a person from Settings stops their sign-in immediately; deleting them removes their details. If you would rather not go through them, or nobody is answering, write to the address below and the account and its data will be removed.

Where it runs

On servers in the United States. If you use the app from elsewhere, your data is handled there.

Changes

If what is collected or how it is used changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too.
